The Fondes Amandes Community Reforestation Project (FACRP) was founded in 1982 by the late Tacuma Jaramogi and Akilah Jaramogi, whose vision and determination turned a grassroots response to recurring bush and forest fires into a pioneering model of community-led fire management and reforestation in Trinidad and Tobago. The urgency of their work became even more evident in the early 1990s, when devastating floods in St. Ann’s claimed lives and underscored the need for sustainable land and watershed management. Guided by Tacuma’s passion for social justice and Akilah’s dedication to environmental stewardship, FACRP has restored degraded landscapes into thriving forests while fostering community pride, education, and resilience. Today, their legacy continues to inspire local and global efforts in bush and forest fire prevention, reforestation, biodiversity conservation, and climate action.
